Certainly, the launch of Meghan’s brand has heralded the beginning of a new era for her, in which she is a businesswoman as well as a wife, mother and Duchess. In an interview given to The New York Times alongside her mother, Doria Ragland, the two women offered insight into their home lives, as well as the trials, tribulations and media storm that have accompanied the launch of As Ever. ‘I need to work, and I love to work… This is a way I can connect my home life and my work,’ Meghan told the newspaper, as she welcomed a journalist to her Montecito home.

According to the reporter, Meghan is still ‘figuring out her public identity, while pitching it to a global audience’ and is ‘clearly bothered’ by accusations that her series – which portrays a picture-perfect, LA lifestyle – is unrealistic and out-of-touch. ‘Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?’ she told the newspaper, gesturing towards her sleeping dogs and sweeping garden views.

That being said, the Duchess has always had an inclination towards culinary pursuits. While she was living in Toronto and starring in Suits, she started a lifestyle blog called The Tig, which ran for three years and covered food, travel, fashion and beauty, often featuring Meghan’s favourite recipes. When she began dating Prince Harry, she taught him how to roast a chicken: Ina Garten’s ‘Perfect Roast Chicken’, to be specific, which they were making together when he proposed. During her short-lived time as a royal, she conceived and published Together: Our Community Cookbook, a collection of recipes by women who lost family members in the Grenfell Tower disaster.

As Meghan herself said in one As Ever newsletter, ‘it’s not lost on me that I’ve worn a lot of hats in my life (pun intended) but as with the ethos of this brand name, I know that in so many ways, I, like all of us, remain “as we’ve always been”… I can’t wait to share it with you.’ And it would seem that Prince Harry is right there beside her for the journey.
