Princess Kate has revealed that she received a very unusual Christmas gift – a chainsaw. The unusual revelation came during the Prince and Princess of Wales’s two-day visit to Scotland.
The first day of the visit, which aims at highlighting rural communities, is also taking place on the loved-up couple’s 14th wedding anniversary. The couple arrived in Scotland earlier today, with the pair set to head back home to Windsor following some other engagements on Wednesday.
It is unclear when Kate received the odd gift – as well as who gifted it to her. Shown a small work station during an engagement today, where Tom Nelson was making a new “surround” for the community food bank fridge with wooden tiles on its roof, the Prince and Princess agreed to use a nail gun to add their own.
Taking his turn first, William asked what kind it was and took instructions on using the tool.
He then fired several nails in successfully before handing it over to his wife. He could be heard jokingly advising her not to pull the trigger as “otherwise our trip will be remembered for all the wrong reasons”.
Crouching down and adding her tiles matter-of-factly, the 43-year-old was heard to say “I’ve been given a chainsaw” for Christmas.
As Kate and William made their arrival earlier today, they were greeted by the sound of bagpipes and huge cheers from the crowds as they arrived. More than 200 tourists and local residents lined the main street of Tobermory to see the royal couple arrive.
After first meeting at university in Scotland during in the early 2000s, Kate and William have since built a strong connection to Scotland, with sources since sharing that “it’s impossible to exaggerate their love [for the country].”
Tomorrow, which is their final day in Scotland, Kate and William will visit an ancient woodland and join a local school group for an outdoor lesson.
The royal couple will mark the end of their trip by taking a public ferry to Iona. Iona has a population of around 170 people but receives around 130,000 visitors a year.
