Meghan Markle gave fans insight into her and Prince Harry’s nicknames.
The two started dating in 2016 after being introduced on a blind date in London. News of their romance broke just before Halloween of that year. When they were dating, Meghan and Harry had to keep it under wraps and came up with their nicknames: “H” and “M.”
The Duchess of Sussex was a special guest on the podcast of friend and IT Cosmetics founder Jamie Kern Lima. On The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Meghan opened up about marriage and motherhood. She also gave listeners and viewers a little insight into her and Harry’s life before marriage.

Meghan revealed why she and her husband refer to each other by their first initials. She said, “Probably at the beginning of us dating, when everything was in code.”

“People didn’t know we were dating for – talk about memory lane – so long ago. I mean, it’ll be our seven-year wedding anniversary soon. I couldn’t tell anyone who I was dating, and who was keeping [the secret], so I think we were just on a letter basis,” she continued.
The Duchess admitted to “loving” the nicknames, and it just “stuck” for them and became part of their relationship. The public first heard her call Harry “H” during their official royal tour of South Africa in 2019. They also said it in their six-part Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan.
Harry and Meghan are known to keep their lives and their kids – Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3 – private. In 2020, the two exited from their royal duties after being angry with the media for not giving them any privacy.
Meghan also praised Harry and expressed her love for him on the podcast. She said, “He’s just out there, just constant, like he’s just going to do whatever he can to make sure that our family is safe and protected and we’re uplifted and still make time for date nights.”
She continued, “He’s also a fox. If you haven’t noticed, my husband’s very, very handsome. But his heart is even more beautiful.”
