A recently appointed trustee at Sentebale, the poverty relief charity co-founded by Prince Harry, has resigned, becoming the second to do so after less than a month in post.
Nerissa Naidu, who was appointed on 25 March, resigned on 14 April, Companies House records show.
A spokesperson for Sentebale said Naidu had “chosen to step down out of respect for her other professional commitments, which we fully understand, respect and support”.
The spokesperson said: “We deeply appreciate her tremendous support and insights in recent weeks and her interest in Sentebale over a long period of time. We look forward to staying in touch.
“This is a particularly difficult time to have joined the organisation, given the unexpected sustained and intrusive press and social media attention,” the spokesperson added.
“We have seen, as a collective society, the consequences of peoples’ lives being thrust into the media spotlight.”
Naidu is the second new trustee to leave the charity in recent weeks: Margaret Ngozi Ikpoh resigned on 2 April after less than a week in the role.
Ikpoh’s decision was also made “out of respect for her family and other professional commitments”, the charity said at the time.
The resignations leave the charity with just three trustees, including its chair, Sophie Chandauka.
Naidu and Ikpoh were part of a group of four trustees appointed by the charity after former trustees resigned alongside the Duke of Sussex and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, due to a dispute with Chandauka.
The Charity Commission opened a compliance case into Sentebale last month to determine whether the charity’s former and current trustees, including its chair, had fulfilled their duties and responsibilities.
