The Prince of Wales has paid tribute to Sir David Attenborough before the broadcaster’s 99th birthday on Thursday, describing him as a “true giant” and an inspiration to “my children and me”.
William praised the veteran naturalist’s “lifetime of extraordinary service to our planet”, adding: “May we all raise a glass to a true giant and continue the mission he has led with such grace and urgency.”
Attenborough will mark his birthday with the release of his documentary Ocean, which explores the health of the world’s seas.
In it, he reflects on his life’s work and legacy. “When I first saw the sea as a boy, it was thought of as a vast wilderness to be tamed and mastered for the benefit of humanity,”
