Meghan Markle is always absent from the Met Gala , despite being hailed as a “dream guest”, by the event’s host, Anna Wintour.

In 2019, Wintour revealed her wish for the Duchess of Sussex to grace the Met Gala alongside Kate Middleton , who was then known as the Duchess of Cambridge before becoming the Princess of Wales. Interestingly, Wintour had no such invitation for their Royal spouses, Prince Harry and William , suggesting they could skip the event.

“I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge [Kate’s then-title prior to becoming the Princess of Wales] together,” Wintour mentioned in an interview with Today. “That would be my dream couple.”

“They could leave their husbands at home,” she further commented. “It’s the two of them I want.”

But times have changed since Wintour’s comments. Back in 2019, Meghan was still a working member of the Royal Family, and the reported rift between her and the now Duchess of Wales wasn’t as public.

In January 2020, Meghan and Harry made headlines when they announced their decision to step back as senior members of the Royal Family. As they began to distance themselves from Royal duties, they also started sharing more open and candid insights into their experiences within the palace walls.

During their interview with Oprah, Meghan shared a shocking revelation that there were concerns expressed by two senior royals about the skin color of her then-unborn son, Archie. Although she chose not to disclose who the individuals were, the Dutch edition of Omid Scobie’s ‘Endgame’ reportedly named Kate and King Charles as the members in question.

The Dutch publisher, Xander Uitgevers, immediately withdrew those books from shelves, stating to ABC News: “An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified.”

In his widely discussed book ‘Spare’, Harry divulged an occasion when Kate was said to have reduced Meghan to tears—a contradiction to earlier accounts claiming it was Meghan who made Kate cry—stemming from an issue with Princess Charlotte’s flower girl attire for Meghan’s nuptials.

“Kate got things rolling straightaway by acknowledging that these stories in the papers about Meg making her cry were totally false,” Prince Harry expressed in ‘Spare’. He alleged that the Princess of Wales owned up by saying: “I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry.”
