Meghan Markle’s latest podcast episode has revealed a musical favourite that she thinks of every time she comes home to California.

The Duchess of Sussex has released the fifth episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which features Hannah Mendoza, who is the founder of Clevr Blends – a plant-based, superfood latte brand which Meghan is an investor of. The series has already featured Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder and CEO of the dating app Bumble, Reshma Saujani the founder of Girls Who Code, Kadi Lee from Highbrow and Jamie Kern Lima of IT Cosmetics – whose podcat Meghan also appeared on during a rather emotional episode.

During the episode, which Meghan posted on the same day her son Archie turned six, the women discussed their own journeys launching brands, how they met each other, and also their favorite songs they think of when they’re in Los Angeles.

Hannah revealed: “When my plane touched down at LAX, I listened to ‘Party In the USA’ by Miley Cyrus, in my headphones.” However, for Meghan it’s a different iconic track she plays when she arrives in the sunshine state.

“When my plane touched down at LAX and I was going back and forth when I was filming [Suits] in Toronto for a long time… I would always hear Joni Mitchell’s ‘California, I’m coming home’ every single time in my head, and I would just go, ‘I’m home!'” she said.

Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles, but she now resides in Montecito with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

During the podcast Meghan also opened up on her decision to invest in Clevr Blends, and explained: “The funniest thing about it is I had never invested in something before…You saw me when I was very pregnant and my friend sent over this gift basket filled with an assortment of products that he thought I would like…One of the things within this big basket was this [Clevr Blends] product. I said, ‘Turmeric latte, and just add water? Okay.’ I tried it and I looked at the back. I said, ‘Who is this person?…What is this company?'”

She continued: “It’s so bizarre because I didn’t have a portfolio at the time. I didn’t have a roster of female founders that I invested in. It was the first and truly organic experience of looking at something and saying, ‘I want to support this’.

“I was watching a lot of Shark Tank at the time. And I said, ‘This is not Shark Tank. Think of this as Dolphin Tank. These are very friendly waters’.”

Showing further support for the brand, Meghan also introduced her famous friends including Oprah Winfrey to it. “I remember calling you and saying, ‘I just want to share it with my wonderful neighbor, Miss Oprah Winfrey’. It was a turmeric latte that I loved the most, the Golden Latte.”

A grateful Hannah then explained the impact Meghan’s help has had, and revealed: “There’s a little count of how many people are on our website. Three people are looking at our website. And then it just started climbing and climbing and climbing. And there were five thousand, ten thousand people on our website, within a matter of thirty seconds…I see the Instagram tag: ‘Oprah tagged you in a post.’ I fell off my chair.”

Meghan also opened up about her own brand, As Ever, which launched in March coinciding with her Netflix series. She shared: “When I think about big milestones for my own business, As ever…Netflix coming on as my business partner is huge. Just having a global powerhouse that believed in me, and the site selling out in the first 45 minutes of launch – everything, every single piece that we had been working on.

“That told me that customers — people — believed in me and this vision. That’s all you really want as a founder. That becomes your proof point that those late nights and the midnight musings are worth it.”
