Kate Middleton wrapped up the week with a bow. Quite literally. The Princess of Wales was spotted out during VE Day celebrations, and one of her looks featured a velvet hair bow perched neatly atop her brunette waves. Kate looked effortlessly regal in a cream Self-Portrait dress with sharp, structured shoulders. The silhouette was cinched at the waist with a built-in belt and melted into a pleated, floor-skimming white skirt. A five-strand pearl necklace added a timeless edge, lending the ensemble that signature Windsor polish. Kate, alongside the rest of the royal pack, attended a celebratory concert in London—one that closed out the UK’s week-long remembrance of the end of World War II in Europe.Hair bows have been quietly reclaiming their spot in the trend cycle, and no, they’re no longer just for playgrounds and prep schools. The ’60s and ’70s loved them, but 2024 made them haute again. At spring/summer New York Fashion Week, bows went big. Literally. Versace, Tanner Fletcher, Vivetta—all sent models down the runway with everything from sweet baby bows to dramatic, floor-dragging ribbons. Lacy Redway’s barre-braids for Christian Siriano were straight-up scene stealers. Chanel went maximalist with oversized satin bows slapped onto sleek ponytails, while Dior kept it pared-back and chic with minimal ribbon ties.

It’s a trend that’s proving evergreen, worn by the likes of Dua Lipa, J.Lo, Hailey Bieber and, now, the future Queen of England has given her seal of approval. Bows are back, and have been for some time now —and they’ve grown up, and looks like the trend is continue to stay.
