James Middleton has described the period in which the Princess of Wales was diagnosed and treated with cancer as ‘challenging’ for their family in a new interview.

Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis last March, taking a step back from royal duties and going on to reveal she had finished chemotherapy in the autumn. She went on to reveal she was in remission from cancer in January.

Her family have rarely made public comments about the Princess, becoming known for keeping their private lives out of the public eye. Yet throughout the journey, her younger brother James has been vocal in his support, sharing Instagram messages in tribute to the Princess. Now, he has spoken of how he looked to help Kate through the period. He told The Times, ‘For her and her family it was a challenging time, and I know for us and our bigger family it was a challenging time, but I think it’s about communication and it’s about offering support and help where you can.

‘Being there for someone is such an important part, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be on your terms and it shouldn’t be on your terms. It should be on their terms; unconditional: ‘I’m not doing it for something in return. I’m doing it because I love you.’
