Kate Middleton and Prince William are taking a well-earned break, but it seems they’ve broken royal protocol with the move.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have taken a family holiday to the Caribbean island of Mustique, treating their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – to some winter sun. The holiday meant they ended up missing the BAFTAs.
The couple also broke a huge royal family move as they took their second holiday in 2025. It’s believed the family traveled from London to Saint Lucia for the trip, before heading to Mustique on a private jet.

The family all headed to Saint Lucia on a British Airways flight, according to the Mail on Sunday. However, royal rules usually mean heirs to the throne are banned from traveling on the same plane.

The rule is believed to be in place due to the small chance they’re involved in an accident. In the past William’s father King Charles had to get permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II to fly with his son.
Former royal pilot Graham Laurie previously explained the rules all changed for William when he turned 12. “Interestingly, we flew all four: the Prince, the Princess, Prince William and Prince Harry, up until when Prince William was 12 years old,” he said during an appearance on A Right Royal Podcast.
Laurie continued, “After that, he had to have a separate aircraft and we could only fly all four together when they were young with the written permission of Her Majesty. Nowadays, for instance, the King can’t fly with the Prince of Wales.”
William also had to approach the Queen to get permission for his son George to accompany him and Kate on their visit to Australia and New Zealand in 2014. With the youngster set to turn 12 in a matter of months, it could mean he will soon have to travel separately to his family.
