Meghan Markle has shared her thoughts on the global financial crunch, an event exasperated by US President Donald Trump’s tariffs. She expressed hope that her new product line will spread “joy” during this “time of recession,” despite some critics shredding the products.
With items like a small jar of jam for $14, edible flower sprinkles for $15, and shortbread cookie mix for $14, Markle – who recently courted controversy by blasting the UK – has been blasted as “out of touch” with her comments.
The Duchess of Sussex spoke with Fortune magazine, sharing that her company remains strong and stable despite the current unpredictability.

She said: “At the moment, all of our products are currently made in the U.S., so we don’t anticipate tariffs affecting us directly.”

Markle continued: “But as we look at the larger context of how this is going to affect the consumer day-to-day, I’m very grateful that in part of the conception of this brand, I wanted to create products that look more prestige but are more accessible and affordable.”
“I think during any time of recession, people still want to find creature comforts, items that can bring them joy.”
Speaking to Fox News, British royal expert Hilary Fordwich described the Duchess’ comments as “inappropriate.” Fordwich said: “Her tariff comments were accurate as they are produced in the US.”
“But particularly those regarding the recession were rather out of touch and dismissive. [They were] inappropriate given the broader economic struggles many of her fan base and others are facing.”
The expert continued: “She was right that during tough times people do seek comfort, but nonessentials are only for the wealthy in tough times.

“Such elitist comments are more likely to alienate average consumers. Albeit her supporters [make up] the majority of her consumers, but the likelihood that her comments resonated with them, in terms of reality, is unlikely.”
As Ever products have been available to buy from April 2, with the items reportedly selling out in an hour.
