One could easily imagine a Royal Family member enjoying a morning coffee or English breakfast tea, but Princess Kate’s supposed drink of choice in the morning is a green juice. The Princess of Wales reportedly starts her day with a surprising, nutrient-packed drink by blending seven ingredients together.

Kate’s mix is said to include a robust blend of kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, coriander, blueberries, spirulina powder, and just a small teaspoon of matcha powder. It can be made simply by chopping and putting in quantities of your choice into a blender, and powering on the device until you’re happy with the consistency.

For those unfamiliar with spirulina, it is a blue-green algae that’s packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and protein.

It has a long history as a superfood. Health websites advise it may help manage inflammation, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels too.

Matcha powder is finely grounded and made from Japanese green tea leaves. It is high in antioxidants and vitamins and commonly used in Japan to make matcha tea, but is also used in baking and cooking.

Nutritionist, Helen Bell from Help & Advice, spoke to the Mirror, about the drink, which some refer to humorously as “pondwater” because of the consistency and the colour.

Ms Bell said: “In my experience, the term ‘superfood’ is often thrown around, but it generally refers to foods that are nutrient-rich and beneficial for health and wellbeing.

In Kate’s smoothie, several ingredients could be considered superfoods. For instance, kale, spinach, and spirulina are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Blueberries are another example, known for their high antioxidant content. Matcha, a type of green tea, is known for its concentration of catechins, which are natural antioxidants.”

Ms Bell also suggested that including these elements in your diet may “contribute positively to cholesterol levels”. Leafy greens, such as kale and spinach, receive particular acclaim for their capacity to reduce “bad cholesterol (LDL) levels”.

Ever since her cancer diagnosis, Princess Kate has regularly spoken about what she believes is the healing power of spending time in nature.

A video was recently released on the Kensington Palace social media channels, to mark the start of Mental Health Awareness week, and reflecting on the spring season.

Kate and William are filmed walking through the countryside on the Isle of Mull, where they recently spent their 14th wedding anniversary, while on a two-day official trip to the remote Scottish island.

In her narration, Kate said: “Over the past year, nature has been my sanctuary… It is through nature, that we can fully understand the true interconnectedness of all things, the importance of balance and the importance of renewal and resilience. Connecting to nature helps us to experience a deeper sense of ourselves, the world around us, and each other”.
