Meghan Markle is facing the wrath of Scottish fury after claiming that a traditional food product from the country reminds her of England. The Duchess of Sussex is trying to promote her ‘As Ever’ lifestyle brand and released an email to her followers to introduce the new products she has going on sale.
These include raspberry jam, cookies, honey and tea and the traditional Scottish delicacy of shortbread. The biscuit originated in Scotland in the 12th century and has become a staple during the festive seasons, while some brands are sold across the globe.
However, for the 43-year-old duchess, the Scottish treat actually evokes memories for her from another part of the UK. Meghan said: “Crunchy and delicious shortbread cookies that remind me of my time in England, with tiny flower sprinkles to add extra beauty and charm to enjoy each delicate bite.”
The remark is sure to raise eyebrows in Scotland although Meghan would likely have tried shortbread at royal events with the late Queen Elizabeth, who was known to be a big fan of the sugary treat, the Scottish Daily Express reports.

Shortbread is made from one part white sugar, two parts butter and three to four parts of plain wheat flour. It’s named for its crumbly texture and has been described as “the jewel in the crown” of Scottish baking.
Although shortbread is originally a Scottish delicacy, it is now made across the UK as well as in Scandinavia.
Earlier this year, Walker’s Shortbread, based in Moray, was given a royal warrant by King Charles.
Other items going on sale from As Ever this week include raspberry spread in keepsake packaging, flower sprinkles, herbal lemon ginger tea, crepe mix, limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb, herbal peppermint tea, shortbread cookies with flower sprinkles and herbal hibiscus tea.
Speaking about the other products, Meghan revealed the hibiscus tea reminds her of the “the sun tea I made in my childhood”, while the fruit spreads revives memories of her “years of recipe testing”.
The crepe mix has been “inspired by my time visiting France as a student”.
Speaking about what inspires her brand the most, Meghan, who still retains the title of Countess of Dumbarton, said: “When I think of the things I look forward to the most, I usually find them in the unexpected, in the thoughtful gesture, in the small details that show care… those small yet meaningful moments of connection are where we can all find the magic in the everyday.
