The King has honoured the Princess of Wales for her distinguished public service.

    From Tuesday, Kate is a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour, which was founded by King George V in 1917 to recognise outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service.

    She is the first member of the royal family to receive the honour.

    The princess, who is away from public duties as she continues chemotherapy treatment after a cancer diagnosis, was previously given a personal honour by Queen Elizabeth in 2019 when she was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order for services to the sovereign.
