A young woman who was named a national charity award winner has met HRH The Princess of Wales at a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Angel Clayton (19) from Moray was named Action for Children’s Inspirational Young Women of Influence 2025 earlier this year, and praised for her strength, positivity and using her own story to raise awareness for care experienced young people.

Angel entered the care system as a teenager and three years ago moved into an Action for Children residential home in Moray.

Since then, she has shown determination to pursue new experiences, build her confidence and advocate for others including becoming a well-recognised local advocate raising awareness for the care experienced community as a member of the Moray Champions Board.

Angel was invited to attend the royal garden party with Action for Children and was one of the special guests who met the charity’s patron HRH Princess of Wales in person.

Speaking about attending the garden party and meeting the Princess of Wales, Angel said: “Wow… it was such an experience especially to meet the Princess.

“When we spoke, I explained my award was for sharing my experience of living in care and to help raise awareness for other young people.

“I’d definitely like to continue making changes for the better for care experienced young people and I felt this was a great experience to do that.

“It was nice to share about staying at Action for Children with her and how it felt like home for the years I lived there.

“I’m so glad Sara could come with me and that many of the team continue to stay in touch.

She was joined by Sara Wilson, a team leader at Action for Children, who worked with Angel for several years and continues to stay in touch as she moves on to live independently.

Sara said: “It was a truly wonderful experience attending the royal garden party, and it was all the more special getting to see Angel meet the Princess.

“I’m so proud of everything Angel has achieved since we met her a few years ago.

“It meant so much to see the Princess taking the time to speak with her about her award and how Action for Children have made her feel so comfortable.

“And I’d never have thought joining the charity 20 years ago that it would ever take me to Buckingham Palace that was a lovely surprise.”
