Nepotism Web: Olivia Wilde

[Music] Don’t worry, darling. This won’t take very long. Olivia Wild, born Olivia Jane Coburn, is the daughter of Leslie and Andrew Coburn to well-renowned journalists. Leslie’s work has been featured on CBS, NBC, PBS Frontline, and 60 Minutes, which she is a producer of. Andrew’s work has appeared in Vanity Fair, National Geographic, and Harper’s Magazine, which he is also now an editor of. Olivia’s parents also co-produced the 1997 film The Peacemaker, starring George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. Olivia’s parents are well known by many people in the arts. And Olivia’s childhood home had many celebrity visitors, including MC Jagger and Steven Spielberg. At age 10, Olivia told her mother she wanted to be on Saturday Night Live, and her mother was able to get her onto set. Olivia even got to attend an SNL afterparty at which she had a brownie eating contest with the late Chris Farley. Olivia attended the prestigious Phillips Academy in Massachusetts and it was here where Olivia got more into the arts. Olivia was cast as Gwendalyn in the Oscar Wild play The Importance of Being Earnest. In obtaining that role, Olivia found her passion for acting and her new stage name, taking the last name of Oscar Wild. Olivia, wanting to get into the industry, was able to land a job as a casting assistant through her parents’ connections. She would end up assisting casting director Mali Finn, most notable for casting Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Titanic. As you can see, Malie had a pretty full roster of actors she would work with, and she would teach Olivia how to prepare for auditions, information that Olivia to this day describes as invaluable. Mi would also cast Olivia in her first feature film role in the 2004 film The Girl Next Door. Olivia’s character had a name and did speak on screen. With her foot officially in the door, Olivia was allowed to audition in more exclusive rooms for larger projects. Olivia would go on to audition for the television series The OC, initially auditioning for the lead role of Marissa Cooper, but instead getting the role of Alex Kelly in season 2. Olivia appears in 13 episodes on the early 2000s hit TV show, and this would give her enough momentum to acquire other roles. That momentum would lead her to the TV show House where she would play the role Dr. Remy, 13, Hadley for 5 years. After 15 years of consistent acting work, Olivia decided it was time to get behind the camera. Her directorial debut, Books Smart, was critically acclaimed. And her next film is getting all the buzz, but maybe not the kind Olivia wants. I’ve been hearing it’s pretty wild on
