Meghan Markle has been stirring up the press this week, but for reasons she’d most likely prefer to avoid.

The Duchess of Sussex’s previous behavior resurfaced after an alleged list of excessive demands reportedly cost her a coveted spot on Vogue’s front cover in 2022. It’s been reported that Meghan put so much heat on Edward Enninful, the then-editor of Vogue UK, over a potential feature in the UK Vogue September 2022 issue that their relationship soured.

At 43, Meghan was supposedly collaborating with Edward on a high-profile fashion issue project, which was to highlight her keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester and include “involved extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions.”

However, the duchess, who’s earned the moniker ‘Duchess Difficult’ from her American team, is said to have insisted on snagging the global cover of Vogue, aiming to grace the front pages of both the US and UK editions simultaneously, and even reached out to Anna Wintour to try to make it happen.

She’s accused of hounding Enninful with six specific demands, as per a source chatting with Page Six. “Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” the insider disclosed. “Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”

Despite Meghan’s efforts, Enninful had already secured supermodel Linda Evangelista for the September 2022 cover and reportedly stood firm on his choice. Meghan Markle reportedly canceled a planned feature after her stance led to a disagreement, insiders claim.

She allegedly insisted on a call with US Vogue’s Anna Wintour and tried to pitch her ideas during a scheduled Zoom meeting. However, Anna Wintour had already chosen Serena Williams, one of Meghan’s A-list pals and guest at her wedding, as the cover star for that issue and is said to have politely refused Meghan’s proposal.

“Anna wasn’t interested,” a source revealed. “Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite.”

The Daily Mail reports that Edward Enninful was “furious” when Meghan withdrew upon realizing she wouldn’t grace British Vogue’s front page.

“The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations,” an insider disclosed.

“He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month. Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast.”

The insider continued: “The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online – but she turned it down.”

Journalist Esther Krakue took a swing at Meghan Markle, suggesting that the Duchess should embrace her “hot” image instead of trying to be seen as a thought leader with “a particularly niche view of the world.”

On The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Krakue dished out her opinions on Meghan’s recent admission during The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, where the Duchess disclosed her inexperience with writing resumes. “She’s also never had to write a resume, let’s be honest,” Krakue commented without mincing words.

Krakue didn’t hold back on her thoughts about Meghan’s foray into social issues either. “The lens through which she views the world is very peculiar,” she stated, calling out Meghan’s advocacy as narrow and unrepresentative of broader social complexities.

Krakue then cut to the chase, arguing that Meghan’s celebrity status could afford her a simpler public image. “You’re hot. You married a prince. Give us the tea. That’s all we need from her,” Krakue bluntly stated.

Regarding Meghan’s endeavors, like her podcast Archetypes and Netflix series With Love, Krakue implied they haven’t hit the mark and that her financial security renders these ventures essentially ‘low risk’. To cap off her critique, Krakue noted that despite her sharp commentary, she harbors no ill will toward Meghan, wishing her ‘every success’.

Krakue expressed skepticism about Meghan’s image, noting that she isn’t a scientist and suggesting, “She’s not a chemist. She’s not a physicist. And that’s fine,” adding, “Sometimes it’s OK to just be pretty and to have good fortune in life – and to ride that wave.”

Meanwhile, Meghan also recently shed light on the future of her As Ever product line which became an instant hit, selling out their inventory in record time.

When Meghan debuted items such as jam, honey, and flower sprinkles from her As Ever collection earlier this year, they were snapped up in lightning speed, leaving many fans empty-handed.

Since the sell-out, customers have been eagerly waiting for a restock of the As Ever lineup, but Meghan suggests there’s more work to do before that happens. In her latest chat, Meghan shared with Fast Company her intention to dig deeper as she explained, “take a step back, gather data and figure out what As Ever could be.”

During her conversation with Fast Company, Meghan hinted at an exciting range of products set to launch next year’s first quarter. She hinted at a hospitality-driven focus while saying, “I want to really focus on the hospitality angle of As Ever, but as we take the learnings, we can understand what the customer’s needs are seasonally.”

The trademark application for As Ever hints at potential future ventures into cookbooks, tableware, and cutlery. The brand’s founder also expressed a desire to venture into fashion, stating, “The category of fashion is something I will explore at a later date because I do think that’s an interesting space for me.”
