Prince George may be just 11-years-old, however he already has the eyes of the world on him. While he spends the majority of his time at the moment living like most other children, attending school and then coming home to play with his parents and siblings, this care-free existence won’t be the case forever.
This is because George is set to be one of the most famous people in the world, especially when he becomes King. At the moment, the young prince is second-in-line to the throne, with his grandfather King Charles currently wearing the crown. However, while a lot of his responsibilities won’t be put on him until he is much older and becomes monarch, he will inherit one massive responsibility the moment his father Prince William becomes King.
This is because he will then – if old enough – be given the title of The Prince of Wales, which will also make him the Duke of Cornwall.
This means he will become the head of The Duchy of Cornwall estate – a private estate established by Edward III in 1337 to provide an income for the heir to the throne.
As head of the estate, tenants on the land – which spreads over a number of counties – will pay him rent, with George then expected to take on the responsibility of running the estate well – something that currently rests on Prince William’s shoulders.
Prince William, like his father, has already shown his passion for the estate since becoming its head in 2022.
The Prince of Wales, 42, makes a number of private visits to the estate each year, and has recently told The Telegraph some of his visions for The Duchy.
He said: “I see the Duchy as an extension of the work we do with the Royal Foundation. I see it as a branch of my philanthropy.
“There’s so much good we can do in the rural world. I see it [the Duchy] as another arm to the work that I want to do, which is being a positive force for good,
“I think the Duchy have got way more levels and gears they can go through to be able to be a bigger force in the community.”
It is believed that when the time comes, the estate will be handed to Prince George and will be in good hands.
