Prince Harry has always been open about his affection for his children, often sharing heartfelt stories at public engagements, in his memoir Spare, and on the 2022 docuseries Harry and Meghan.

Despite his strong commitment to keeping his kids away from the media glare, the Duke of Sussex, who turned 40, hasn’t shied away from divulging tender moments with the public, including touching details about Princess Lilibet’s arrival.

The couple, who stepped back as senior royals, welcomed their daughter Lilibet on June 4, 2021, marking four years since her birth. The little princess, named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, was born in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, California.

In his book, Harry recounts the intense moments of Lilibet’s birth with vivid imagery.

In Spare, Prince Harry shares an intimate recollection: “When the doctor said it was a matter of minutes, I told Meg that I wanted mine to be the first face our little girl saw.”

He continues, describing the emotional experience: “I slid my hands under the tiny back and neck. Gently, but firmly, as I’d seen in films, I pulled our precious daughter from that world into this, and cradled her just a moment, trying to smile at her, to see her, but honestly, I couldn’t see anything.”

Harry also reveals his immediate thoughts upon meeting his daughter: “I wanted to say: Hello. I wanted to say: Where have you come from?”

“I wanted to say: Is it better there? Is it peaceful? Are you frightened? Don’t be, don’t be, all will be well. I’ll keep you safe.”

Since her birth four years ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared only a handful of photos of Lilibet, who Harry described as very “Spencer-like”.

In their self-titled Netflix docuseries, Harry spoke about Lilibet, saying: “I see a lot of my mum in Lili. She’s very Spencer-like. She’s got the same blue eyes..”

Harry also mentioned that his daughter has “sort of like golden reddish hair”.

The plans for Lilibet’s fourth birthday today remain unknown, but it’s likely they’ll celebrate at their Montecito home.

On the morning of little Lilibet’s birthday, Meghan shared some never-before-seen snaps of the mother-daughter duo.

In the black-and-white snap, the pair appeared to be enjoying a boat ride, and Lilibet was shown perched on her mom’s lap. Meghan also shared a picture of the tender moment Lilibet was born.

“Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives – and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!” the former actress captioned the wholesome snaps.
