Before the London summer influx once again turns Rock into Chelsea-on-Sea, a truly Cornish institution, will steal the spotlight this weekend. Think prized pigs, flowing Pimm’s, and, just announced, royal patronage.

On Friday 6 June, Prince William and The Duchess of Edinburgh will attend the Royal Cornwall Show, a source of immense pride for the county. Both Royal Highnesses serve as patrons of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, and their rare joint appearance will likely be one of many show highlights.

Founded in 1793, the Royal Cornwall Show is among the largest agricultural events in England, drawing over 120,000 visitors across three days. It’s a veritable tour de force of livestock, local fare, and Cornish charm, along with the occasional royal drop-in, as the name would suggest.

In 2028, then-Prince Charles made a memorable visit alongside Camilla (then Duchess of Cornwall), touring food, craft and farming exhibits, and indulging his well-documented love for sustainable agriculture. His first visit was back in 1970, starting a tradition now continued by his eldest son.
