Queen Camilla made a heartfelt gesture towards the late Queen Elizabeth as she stepped out at Ascot alongside King Charles.

The royal couple were joined by Prince William in the royal carriage procession to the races after Princess Kate pulled out of attending the event last minute.

The Queen was dressed in an all-green ensemble for the second day of race but accessorised her outfit with a subtle nod to the late monarch.

Camilla chose to wear an emerald and diamond drop brooch which had previously been a treasured possession of Queen Elizabeth II.

Her outfit matched the royal heirloom with Camilla wearing an emerald green crepe silk dress by Anna Valentine.

She completed the all-green look with a verdant hat by Philip Treacy and bracelets from Van Cleef & Arpels.

On Monday, the 77-year-old opted for a grey long sleeve rap dress from Dior which was complimented by a pair of Chanel shoes and another Philip Treacy hat.

Camilla and Charles will be hoping for better results for the rest of the weeks races after their horse, Reaching High, finished a disappointing ninth in the debut stakes.

The royal couple watched from the racecourse as their sole runner on day one failed to deliver the £57,000 first-place prize.

Reaching High holds particular significance as the first horse owned by a reigning British monarch to be trained in Ireland.

The Willie Mullins-trained runner was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II from Estimate, her 2013 Ascot Gold Cup winner.

Reaching High had shown promise earlier this season, narrowly losing in a photo finish to Not Just Any Eagle at Leopardstown.

Despite being listed to appear in the Royal Procession carriage, the Princess of Wales was not present alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William.

GB News understands the Princess of Wales is disappointed not to attend the event.

In her absence, William joined Charles, Camilla and Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud in the first carriage in the Royal Procession at 2pm.

The Princess of Wales had been printed on the carriage list for Wednesday’s Royal Procession but this has now been updated to reflect her absence.
