Prince William is said to have bent his own “golden rule” about not discussing personal matters in the limelight during a revealing ITV interview while seated next to his wife, Kate Middleton.

Royal commentator Richard Kay told Channel 5 that William, who is marking his 43rd birthday today (June 21), went against his principle of avoiding romance talk.

Richard remarked: “William broke his own golden rule effectively in that famous engagement interview with ITV news and Tom Bradby back in 2010 because he started talking about the romance. Here was William putting real flesh on the bones.”

The interview was the couple’s initial media appearance post announcing their plans to wed.

Discourse surrounding William and Kate’s marriage has continued since they exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey in April 2011.

The Royal couple has seen heightened scrutiny, especially after Kate’s cancer treatment last year.

Following their joint public showing at Trooping the Colour this month, Prince William showed up solo at the prestigious Royal Ascot event.

A body language expert opined to the Daily Express that Prince William exhibited signs of sadness during the event.

They claimed: “While his father, the King, chatted happily to their guest in the carriage, using some animated, good-humored body language displays, William seemed to sit back quietly with a slightly slumped posture, looking subdued and rather reflective without Kate at his side.”

Judi suggested that Kate’s absence from Royal Ascot might have been a decision influenced by William out of concern for her wellbeing while she’s on the mend.

She explained: “It can often be the loving partner who urges someone to avoid ‘overdoing it’ after an illness, meaning Kate’s absence from Ascot could even have been down to some gentle pressure from William.

“It’s a very long day in the heat and a more social event than the Trooping of the Colour or other visits Kate has made recently and it might have been a very sensible idea to skip it, but it still left William with a rather sad eye expression and without the kind of wide, beaming, toothy grin he sported last time she was by his side at the event.”

During the recent Trooping the Colour ceremony, a body language expert closely analyzed the dynamics between William and Kate, who is also 43.

Dr Arthur Cassidy spoke to Hello! about William’s display of affection towards Kate at the Buckingham Palace balcony, indicating a profound love.

He noted: “Prince William, our ebullient and animated Prince, devoted father and protector, with his uniform as Colonel-in-Chief of the Welsh Guards, shows for a few milliseconds, a tight upper lip as he faces Princess Kate. This signifies his positive emotional state as he’s deeply in love with wife Kate.”
