Meghan Markle revealed a key lesson she and Prince Harry are raising Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to understand.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are parents to son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4, and Meghan shared the insight about what she and her husband hope to instill in their kids while appearing on the latest episode of the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, released June 17.
Meghan, 43, joined host Emma Grede for a conversation focused on the launch of her lifestyle brand As ever and the journey of running a business, where the Good American co-founder asked Meghan if she talked about money “or that type of thing” with her kids.
“We sometimes do a little farmer’s market stand,” the Duchess of Sussex revealed, which Emma joked was “perfect Americana in Montecito,” shouting out the family’s California hometown.

“We grow a lot of veggies and part of what I want them to learn is, and gardening is really so great for children, ’cause it teaches them patience, teaches them to value and appreciate their food,” Meghan said. “So you start from seed and you watch it grow, and they wait. But with that, it’s like, now do you want to sell your harvest? And do you want to share it with our community? And also, what do you want to do with those funds once you have them?”
“So really starting to understand as they’re learning counting and numbers and all of those things, that there’s a cost and a price for things. And I think that’s key for children to understand that, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege,” she continued. “You need to know that, just like manners, and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things.”
The Duchess of Sussex added that she and Prince Harry, 40, are aligned on the parenting philosophy.
“In our life, for my husband and I, it’s really important that they understand the value of things,” she explained.
Gardening is one of Meghan’s longtime hobbies and a passion she said she was “sharing” with her kids in her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, which premiered on March 4.
Exclusively speaking to PEOPLE about rediscovering herself beyond motherhood, the challenges of building a business and her private world with Prince Harry and their family, Meghan acknowledged how her life has changed — and stayed the same.
“I never had a garden like this — growing up, I never had anything like this,” she said. “I think no matter how much things change, I love that at our core, we’re the same as we’ve always been.”

In a makeup-free video shared in February, Meghan identified that sentiment of enduring continuity as what inspired the name change of her lifestyle brand from American Riviera Orchard to As ever.
“As Ever essentially means ‘as it’s always been,’ and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do,” she said then, referring to the original lifestyle blog she ran before marrying Prince Harry.
Elaborating to PEOPLE, Meghan said that Harry loved seeing her dive back into her passions with her As ever venture and Netflix series.

“My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me,” she told PEOPLE.
“It’s almost like a honeymoon period again, because it’s exactly how it was in the beginning when he’d watch me scribbling away, writing newsletters, fine-tuning edits and just really being in the details of it. I think he loves watching as much as I love doing that creative process. It’s just been fun. This is who I’ve always been.”
