Amid years of strained ties between King Charles III and his son Prince Harry, a new report suggests the monarch is quietly crafting a deeply personal plan aimed at reuniting the royal family — but it’s a plan that will only unfold upon his death.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family has been riddled with tension. Bombshell interviews, revealing docuseries, and the tell-all memoir Spare have only widened the gulf between the Sussexes and the rest of the Firm.

Yet, despite the icy distance, palace insiders now claim King Charles hopes to heal the rift in a powerful — and symbolic — way: by including Harry and Meghan in the most sacred moment of his royal legacy — his funeral.

According to The Telegraph, early outlines of the monarch’s funeral arrangements (under the updated codename London Bridge, now repurposed from Queen Elizabeth II’s plan) indicate the Sussexes are being factored into the ceremony with deliberate care. A palace source reportedly confirmed that Harry and Meghan will be invited to join the family vigil during the King’s lying-in-state at Westminster Hall and will be seated among the most senior royals during the service.

This would mark a significant shift from Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, where Harry and Meghan were seated in the second row behind King Charles and Queen Camilla — a decision viewed by many as a subtle snub. That seating arrangement, near Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, left the Sussexes feeling further alienated upon returning to their California home.

But when the time comes for the nation to bid farewell to its current sovereign, the King reportedly wants to ensure his farewell serves a higher purpose — family unity.

One insider noted, “His Majesty hopes his final public act brings the family back together. Harry and Meghan are to be fully enveloped in the proceedings.” It’s expected Prince Harry will walk alongside his brother, Prince William, during the solemn procession through London, echoing the image of the two princes walking behind their mother Princess Diana’s coffin decades earlier.

Even concerns about the Sussexes’ personal security — a point of contention during their UK visits — are being addressed. The funeral plan reportedly includes arrangements that guarantee protection for the couple and their children, Archie and Lilibet, who are expected to participate in age-appropriate ways.

Notably, the King’s strong commitment to environmentalism is also expected to shape elements of the funeral, with sustainability taking center stage throughout the farewell ceremonies.

While it may take the weight of a nation’s grief to create the conditions for reunion, King Charles seems determined that his final chapter will be more than a state occasion — it will be an olive branch, extended in death to mend what life could not.
