This summer will be one the Wales family will especially want to savour as huge changes are on the horizon, not least for Prince George. The young royal, who currently attends Lambrook School, will leave his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, behind as he will be heading off to secondary school.

Kate and Prince William’s eldest child turns 12 on July 22, and will return to his school in September for his final year, which is based in Berkshire. George is of an age when “the reality of his destiny has begun to hit home” according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

Jennie commented on George’s recent appearances in public: “He tends to look rather serious when he’s ‘on parade’ these days. Charlotte looks demure, Louis looks impish, but George sometimes looks rather preoccupied to me. And who can blame him? It is an extraordinary prospect to know that one day you will be taking on the huge role that you are now watching your grandfather perform.”

She further said: “But he’s not, by any means, always a serious little chap. When he’s with his dad at a football match, or fooling around with his siblings and his father, he has a wonderful smile on his face, and seems happy and relaxed.”

The Berkshire-based independent school only educates children until Year 8, and with the future King approaching his 12th birthday this summer, he will need to relocate to continue his senior school education in September 2026.

According to the MailOnline, the Princess of Wales was seen taking a tour of University College School (UCS) in Hampstead just after it closed for the Christmas break in 2024 – but it is not yet known where George will attend.

The mother-of-three reportedly also toured Highgate School, which closed for a “special VIP visitor”.

In May, George completed his most high-profile royal outing to date when he attended commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

He also joined his parents in chatting to World War Two heroes at a Buckingham Palace tea party. Pictures showed him asking questions and speaking to veterans as he was thoughtfully led around the engagement by.

George also joined the wider working royals for Trooping the Colour, riding in a carriage and, once again, appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for another impressive RAF flypast.
