Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, and Prince William dazzled at Windsor Castle for a banquet marking the French state visit to Britain

There were whispers that the French state visit to Britain could see Kate Middleton make a dazzling return to white tie and tiara attire, and during the banquet held in honour of President Macron at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, the hopeful rumours were finally confirmed. Iin her first state banquet in two years, the Princess of Wales did not disappoint. Long held up as a master of diplomatic dressing, with the ability to pull off a tiara like few others, Catherine combined savvy sartorial choices with profound royal symbolism – as well as one or two of her trusted favourite jewels.
Our first glimpse of the Princess of Wales came on Tuesday evening, when her official Instagram account posted a photograph of Kate and Prince William, draped in their finery to accompany King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duchess of Gloucester (as well as Mick Jagger, Melanie Hamrick, and Elton John) to the state banquet. A vision in scarlet, the Princess proved once more that she is the ne plus ultra when it comes to subtle style nods.
