The royals are expected to follow unwritten rules when it comes to fashion, but Kate has a habit of making her own rules, it seems.

Princess Kate has taken a break from her typical color palette of bright greens, blues and reds, instead, opting for a petal pink two-piece by Christian Dior, which, coincidentally is also Meghan Markle’s go-to designer.

From the outside looking in, it appears Kate is making a nod to her sister-in-law, which some may even see as a compliment, that if it’s good enough for the Duchess, it’s good enough for the Princess.

On Tuesday, Kate and William welcomed President Macron and his wife, the First Lady of France, to the UK for their state visit with Kate looking pretty in pink and William just as dapper in blue.

In addition to making a nod to Meghan, the fashion choice was also in honor of the Macrons’ visit with Dior hailing from France.

The bar jacket and tulle skirt is by the label’s former Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, marking Kate’s first time wearing the French designer’s clothing.

Kate finished off the look with a matching hat by Jess Collett, a British milliner, and jewelery that once belonged to Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.

Macron was seen bowing to the princess and then went a step further, kissing the royal’s hand, which could be considered a breach of protocol, but since it matches up with French custom, and is seen as a sign of respect, it’s deemed acceptable.

After the Macrons landed, and were greeted by Kate and William, all four hopped in a carriage and made their way to Windsor Castle to join King Charles and Queen Camilla for the ceremonial welcome.

Camilla is also a fan of the French brand, spotted wearing Dior at this year’s Royal Ascot, rocking a grey wrap dress on the first day, kicking off the week-long event.

The last time Meghan wore Dior in public was in 2022 for the national service of Thanksgiving during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

It was her first time returning to the UK, since resigning as a senior working royal.

It’s not clear if Meghan will take this as a nod, or a slap in the face, or… both.
