As Prince Harry and King Charles aim towards a much-anticipated reunion within the Royal Family, one key figure could be pivotal in healing the rift between the senior royals and Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
The relationship between the Royal Family has been tense since the Sussexes stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. However, Prince Harry has recently voiced his wish to mend ties with his father and older brother.
It comes as a meeting took place just last week between Prince Harry’s chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and King Charles III’s communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. Liam Maguire, the Sussexes’ UK PR representative, was also reportedly in attendance at the London meeting.
The meeting was said to have been in casual conversation over “informal drinks” on the sun-soaked terrace of the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL), a private member’s club known for fostering international friendships.
Maines could potentially be Harry’s ‘secret weapon’ when it comes to reuniting the Royal Family. She was the one who arranged Prince Harry’s BBC interview in May, where he expressed his desire for a reconciliation with the King and Prince William, reports the Mirror.

He confessed his caution of conflict and shared his concerns about Charles’ health, admitting he did “not know how much longer [his] father has.”
A source for The Mail on Sunday has suggested that the recent meeting with royal representatives might just be “the first step towards reconciliation” between Harry and his father, hinting at a positive direction.
“Everyone just wants to move on and move forward now,” they continued. “It was finally the right time for the two sides to talk.”
Since joining Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s team in March, Maines has made significant strides in their business endeavours, including work with Archewell and Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever.
In a statement to Axios back in February, Maines expressed her enthusiasm about her new role. “I’m honoured to partner with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to highlight the amazing work they are doing through Archewell, their broader business portfolio, and nonprofit work,” she stated.
“I’m excited to help them tell their story as entrepreneurs, builders, and philanthropists, while overseeing all communications for the couple and their ventures.”
Maines has also been instrumental in streamlining the Sussexes business operations, establishing herself as an indispensable part of their team during challenging times and acting as an ideal intermediary for healing the family divide.
With Prince Harry expected to return to the UK later this year in September, this visit could mark the first time he meets his father in 18 months, if the discussions of a reunion materialise.
Whilst it’s still uncertain who initiated the first step towards reconciliation between the estranged father and son through their respective communications teams, this meeting is being celebrated as the most evident indication yet that both parties are eager to make peace following years of public jibes, explosive interviews, and family distress.
