Amanda Seyfried Slams Hollywood’s Sequel Obsession: ‘It’s Just for Money’
Amanda Safrid critiques Hollywood sequel culture driven by profit. In a candid conversation with Rachel Broznahan, star of the upcoming Superman film, Amanda Safred expressed her views on Hollywood’s fascination with sequels. Despite recognizing her own involvement in sequels like Mama Mia, Here We Go Again, and 10 2, Safe voiced her desire to see more original stories in the industry. The discussion took place in interview magazine where they delved into the topic at length. Brnahan, who has recently taken on the iconic role of Lois Lane, mentioned the abundance of sequel films set to release, citing examples like Jurassic World Rebirth, Fantastic 4, and of course Superman. She humorously proposed a mashup title such as Supertastic Park to capture the phenomenon of these big budget follow-ups. Safe responded by playing along with the idea, but she quickly shifted to a more serious tone, articulating her weariness with the growing trend of producing sequels. She emphasized the value of bravery in pursuing new and original content, suggesting that sequels are often more about financial gain than artistic courage. However, she admitted that she would happily return for a third Mamma Mia film without hesitation. Broahan echoed similar sentiments about sequels despite being open to reprising her role in another Superman movie. She reflected on how some actors expressed dissatisfaction with their involvement in superhero franchises only to continue participating. She emphasized the importance of standing by one’s choices in such cases. Safe also shared her enthusiasm to develop a sequel to Jennifer’s Body, but she stressed that Megan Fox, her co-star in the original film, would need to be involved. Additionally, she’s set to return as the voice of her character in a new animated series based on Ted, which is currently in development at Peacock. The new Superman film is scheduled for a July 11th release through Waro Brothers Studios.
