Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, celebrates his 81st birthday today on July 18th. Meghan and her father have spent years apart.
Thomas Has Repeatedly Gone Public With Comments About Meghan
Meghan’s father was an accomplished Hollywood hand who worked on shows such as Married with Children and General Hospital.
He won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction For A Drama Series. He also worked on the 1984 Summer Olympics. Thomas and Meghan’s mother, Doria, divorced when she was only two years old.
Thomas’s actions in the weeks leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding prompted Meghan’s groom to claim that her father caused “chaos” in the days leading up to the wedding.
Harry and Meghan learned that Thomas had staged a candid photoshoot working with the paparazzi. His behavior blindsided the royal family, leaving Meghan disillusioned and embarrassed.
In a 2018 interview with The Sun, he told the publication that the royal family was “cult-like” and quipped that they were “either like Scientologists or the Stepford family.”
Thomas suffered from two heart attacks before the ceremony. He was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day.
Meghan has been estranged from her father since before her marriage to the Duke of Sussex. Thomas has repeatedly gone public with comments about Meghan.
He has made some painful yet revealing public statements about his daughter. The most recent and glaring statement was when he said, “Meghan has never been authentic.”
Thomas criticized Meghan’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” and accused her of being fake on camera. As a lighting director, he knows when someone is disingenuous.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, he explained,
“The best cooks are funny, they mess up, they are human. She just wants to be perfect. It’s sad because she’s trying so hard to stay in the limelight.”
He also said that Meghan lied about some of the stories she recounted from her childhood. Meghan talked about her “love of cooking” and being raised poor, which he said was “malarky.”
Thomas also slammed when Meghan corrected her celebrity friend, Mindy Kaling, who called her Meghan Markle. She told Kaling that her last name was “Sussex.”
He also made fun of the hilarious moment in the show, when she transferred store-bought pretzels from one plastic bag to another.
The purpose was apparently to give her guests “something to snack on,” while making her presentation appear perfect, despite the contents of the bag being quite mediocre.
He also finds it amusing that she insists on adding flower sprinkles to everything. The entire series, “With Love, Meghan, looked pre-planned and rehearsed.
Thomas also claims that Meghan “ghosted” her family. He has never even met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
He also admitted that he had heard about the birth of Lilibet through the media, rather than from his daughter directly.
Last year, on Thomas’s 80th birthday, he told the Daily Mail,
“I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch. I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would settle for a photograph at this stage.”
