Renowned public figure Meghan Markle’s new rosé wine has been praised by a sommelier, but he was surprised by one aspect of the drinking experience. Earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, relaunched her lifestyle brand with a range of new products, including a new rosé wine.
This wine has not only been sampled by customers but also by a professional wine expert. Joshua Lorbes, the sommelier at Jack & Charlie’s restaurant in the West Village, was the expert who tasted Meghan’s rosé.
Initially, Joshua had high praise for the wine, describing it as having “very interesting” notes of peach and orange.
He even compared it favorably to other wines on the market, saying: “It doesn’t smell too powerful, which is nice. It reminds me of Provence rosés, which are the benchmark for easy-drinking rosés.”
However, Joshua was taken aback when he started drinking it and found that it was stronger than other rosés on the market. He told the i: “That is kind of heavy. From the nose, it smells so light and gentle.”
While Meghan’s drink has an alcohol content of 14.5 percent, other similar rosés typically range between 11 and 13 percent.

Despite being a bit stronger than its competitors, Meghan’s rosé has proven popular just a few weeks after its debut on the market. The wine, which costs around $80 for a minimum three-bottle order, according to the Standard, quickly sold out after it was released.
In an Instagram post, the As Ever brand announced: “It’s here! Raise a glass to the newest addition to the As ever family. Our beautiful Napa Valley rose is now available.”
The drink was described as a “delicately balanced rose with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish” and one that was “crisp, pale in color, and effortlessly elegant – crafted for slow afternoons and golden-hour gatherings”.

While Meghan has been praised for both the relaunch of As Ever and her other recent ventures, she has also faced criticism.
However, a former butler to the Royal Family has cautioned against underestimating Meghan.
Speaking to the Daily Express’s Hanisha Sethi, former Royal butler Paul Burrell said: “I think they’re amused by it. I think the Royal Family and we [the public] on this side of the Atlantic are all amused by it.
“But listen, this is an empire just beginning. Make no mistake, she will go into fashion, into jewellery, maybe have her own perfume. ‘You, too, can smell like Meghan Markle.’ I wonder what that would be like?”
