According to a lip reader’s analysis, Prince Harry was caught “mansplaining” to his wife, Meghan Markle, during her first Trooping the Colour appearance in 2018.
A fresh documentary enlisted multiple lip readers to scrutinize some of the Royal Family’s most high-profile events throughout the years, uncovering their interpretations of what family members were discussing during these apparently private exchanges.
One particular moment took place in summer 2018, when the Duchess of Sussex made her first-ever Trooping the Colour debut, mere weeks following her marriage to Prince Harry.
In Channel 5’s latest feature-length program, Lip-Reading the Royals: The Secret Conversations, lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed what may have transpired between the newly married couple.
As the Royal Family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony to witness the traditional RAF flypast, the Duke appeared to be instructing his wife about the upcoming events.
In the documentary, experts dissected Harry and Meghan’s appearance at the Remembrance Sunday service in November 2018. A clip from the service shows Harry and Meghan engrossed in conversation, with Ms. Hickling offering her interpretation of their dialogue.
At the beginning of the Sussexes’ exchange, the expert suggests Meghan is advising Harry: “Take advantage of the situation,” to which he responds, “Today?” She then directs him, “Do it tonight.”
As their conversation unfolds, Harry leans in closer to Meghan, questioning, “You do realize that this is the end?” to which Meghan promptly affirms, “Yes, I do know.”
Royal historian Dr. Tessa Dunlop then proposes in the documentary that these seemingly private remarks between the Sussexes could indicate that the couple had been planning their dramatic departure from the Royal family years before they officially decided to step down.
