Martha Stewart seemingly won’t be purchasing anything from Meghan Markle’s As Ever brand anytime soon.

In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle published Sunday, July 27, the lifestyle guru, 83, threw some subtle shade at the Duchess of Sussex, 43, who has ventured into the lifestyle space herself.

“Meghan, I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Stewart remarked.

“Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important,” she added.

While the Martha Stewart Living founder didn’t sing any praises for Meghan, she gushed over Gwyneth Paltrow, who founded the lifestyle brand Goop in 2008.

“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,” Stewart noted. “She’s admired. She won an Oscar for heaven’s sake as an actress! She’s pretty powerful.”

The cookbook author went on to say that she wishes both women “good luck” with their business ventures, adding she doesn’t “mind” having successors.

In March 2024, Meghan launched her lifestyle brand under the name American Riviera Orchard, but changed it to As Ever in February 2025. The company sells everything from jam, tea, and cookie mix to Rosé, routinely selling out of inventory during launches.

Netflix has a stake in the brand, and Meghan also has a show with the streamer, With Love Meghan, which came out in March. The reality TV show — set to return for a second season this fall — sees the former actress bring “friends and famous guests to a beautiful California estate, where she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips,” per Netflix.

The Suits alum — who shares children Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, with her husband Prince Harry — spoke to People in March about how exciting it is for her to build her brand for her daughter.

“Being able to have my own little girl, as I’ve spent so much of my life championing the rights of girls and women, and to be able to see this as a multigenerational story — Archie is of course included in that, my husband is of course included in that — but I love the heritage feeling of it and knowing this is something that I can create in front of my daughter and teach her what it’s like to be a working mom,” she told the outlet. “This is something that hopefully can be part of her legacy too.”
