A savage war of words has broken out in late-night TV as Jon Stewart slams Jay Leno in a fiery rant, taking aim at the former host’s comments targeting Stephen Colbert

Jon Stewart has launched a scathing attack on Jay Leno during his Weekly podcast, branding the former Tonight Show host as out of touch, disconnected, and two-faced following Leno’s recent criticism of today’s politically-charged late-night comedy — specifically targeting The Late Show host Stephen Colbert.
The 75-year-old Leno, speaking in a recent interview recorded before The Late Show got the axe, expressed his preference for comedy that doesn’t alienate or drive away half the viewership. “I love political humor, don’t get me wrong,” he stated. “But why shoot for just half an audience all the time?”
“‘I don’t understand, why do you wanna offend your audience? Why not just do a show about… why do you have to talk about things you believe? Why do you have to make jokes about things you actually think?” Stewart said, mimicking Leno’s tone mockingly and with heavy sarcasm.

Stewart then parodied Leno once more, quipping, “‘I’m just gonna go throw myself down a hill and see if I can get a concussion,'” before flatly denouncing the veteran host’s remarks as “f—ing ridiculous.”

Although Colbert has yet to publicly respond to Stewart’s podcast, his recent and widely publicized termination occurred just days after he publicly criticized Paramount for settling a lawsuit with Donald Trump — a settlement reportedly required in order to push through the company’s controversial Skydance merger. Trump later boasted about the firing on Truth Social, writing, “His talent was even less than his ratings,” according to reports from Express U.S..
Paramount insisted the cancellation was strictly a financial decision unrelated to politics or public comments. Leno, meanwhile, has been making headlines for more physical reasons — including wearing an eye patch in November after taking a spill down a hill near Pittsburgh.
“I rolled down the hill. Hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye, there you go,” Leno told TMZ at the time, downplaying the incident with his usual dry humor.

Despite having previously stated he’s no fan of Trump, Leno has called the former president’s potential 2024 reelection win “a great day for democracy” and has repeatedly criticized modern political comedy for leaning too far left. “Back in my day, you’d get angry letters from both sides,” he reminisced, adding, “Now you kind of have to pick a side.”
But Stewart wasn’t buying it. He pushed back, arguing that conservative media is already heavily slanted, and accused those trying to temper liberal voices of blatant hypocrisy.
“This is them trying to police and create rules that they would never follow,” he countered firmly.
He wrapped up the segment by warning that MAGA forces are now aggressively eyeing media ownership, too. “There’s going to be an acquisition and merger spree for these kinds of things,” he predicted grimly.
