It has been well over a year since King Charles, 76, last saw his youngest son Prince Harry, 40, with their last meeting being in February 2024. While it is believed the pair have experienced some turbulence in their relationship since, it was reported last month that the father and son may soon be set to reconcile.
While some of their aides may have met up, Harry and the King are yet to come face to face this year. Although this is usually down to diary clashes and busy schedules, one royal expert believes that there is one central reason for this – the King’s health.
Newsweek’s Chief Royal Correspondent Jack Royston said that the King has been trying to focus on his health since his cancer diagnosis last year and avoid stress, which may explain the lack of in-person contact he has had with Harry.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jack said: “I think there’s a chance we will, but I do think Charles is going to need to be slightly dragged into it.
“I think Charles got to a point after his diagnosis where I think he took a decision that he needed to protect his peace and that his younger son was causing him a significant amount of stress and anxiety in his life, and so he took a decision that he needed to focus on his health and getting back to the place that he needed to be, and that meant not exhaustingly spending all of his time running around after Harry.
“And so Harry is going to have to show Charles that having a relationship is not going to be exhausting and draining for him if Harry’s serious about wanting to repair that relationship.”
While Harry has visited the UK multiple times since his last meeting with his father, the pair have not met up.
