Fashion designer Tracy Robbins, meanwhile, called Meghan Markle ‘sunshine in a bottle’ and thanked her for ‘making time to be such a loving and connected friend’, adding that she hoped Prince Harry and the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, were ‘smothering’ her with ‘hugs and kisses’. She also shared a photograph of herself and Meghan backstage at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour, which they attended together in May.

Abigail Spencer, who Meghan met while filming Suits, described her old friend as ‘champagne in human form’ and a ‘creature unlike any other’, as she thanked her for ‘being a sister in this life, and beyond’. Meghan replied, saying: ‘Thank you, sweet Abs! Right back at you, and happy birthday to YOU! 44/4’ in recognition of the fact that she and Spencer share the same birthday, and both turned 44 on the 4th August.

The team behind As Ever, Meghan’s brand, also posted an enthusiastic message about the Duchess, ‘celebrating the woman behind it all. She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! Happy birthday to our founder.’ A picture posted to As Ever’s official Instagram account accompanied the message: an outtake from Meghan’s shoot for her People magazine cover earlier this year, it showed her wearing a linen and denim dress from luxury brand, Gabriella Hearst. Meghan paired it with a wide-brimmed hat from Cuyana and the vintage Cartier Tank watch that once belonged to her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, as well as her Cleave & Company engagement ring.
