Piper Perabo says playing a villain is RELAXING at New York premiere of ‘Butterfly’
One, two, three. Perfect. Couple more. One, two, three. Excellent. And then for everybody else, watch it. And one more at the end. Right down here, please. Perfect. Everybody here, make a picture. And then right here, this camera, keep coming around center again, please. Thank you. And now, thank you so much. And ladies, last one for me for prime right here. Beautiful. Can you Sorry, guys. Um, I really like playing a villain. It’s very relaxing. You know, good guys have to carry a lot of in their bag and like be nervous all the time. But bad guys are never nervous. Neither Louis nor I had ever been to Korea before and we had time in rehearsal to sort of get to know each other, get to know the city of Soul. We spent a lot of time together building that relationship and I think fans are really going to like us as like a bad guy duo. Well, I did an action movie with Daniel Day Kim uh decades ago and so when he knew he was going to make this, he called me up and we stayed friends ever since and he said like, “Want to go to Korea?” I mean, I have never been there before, but I know that like there’s such a K renaissance right now, like K-pop, K beauty, K drama. And it never occurred to me that I was going to get to work along these artists who are making such amazing stuff. And I was so happy to be there. Like, if you think your family’s difficult, way do you see this family? You’re it’s going to make everyone else’s family seem like no big deal. Family is difficult. Everybody here and to your left. And they’re next to him. Right here. And they got They’re coming. They’re coming. And right here, please. Thank you. I think uh anytime you have a father, a parent, and a child relationship, it’s complicated. You know, as a dad myself, I can tell you I can I try to guide my kids in the best way I think I know how. But sometimes I make mistakes, big mistakes, because they’re their own people. And it’s about finding the combination of guidance versus listening to them. Uh this idea that he was a father who uh abandoned his child uh and uh uh how it affected his conscience and uh I think it’s central to his character that he loved her enough to go back for her. I was, you know, uh, on set as an actor and I was also when I wasn’t acting making sure I was in production meetings thinking about, you know, the next steps of the show. But, you know, I’m I’m really grateful to have that opportunity. Not many actors do. Uh, you know, it was important to me because, you know, it’s an a full expression of who I am as an actor and as a human being. And I hadn’t quite seen a show like this before that that had Korean actors, American actors in uh, a genre that everybody knows. uh spy action. So, um it was the combination of all of it because it’s a reflection of who I am. You’re going to see the Korea that I know and the America that I know, the American that I am. And so, there’s a bit of fish out of water, but there are little bits of like knowledge that um my parents passed down to me. Uh love languages expressed through food. Food is a major character in our show and you’ll see why in the first couple of episodes. But we get to showcase beautiful scenery, um, great food and amazing people.
