Families living in cottages near the Prince and Princess of Wales’ new “forever home” were reportedly asked to leave.

William and Kate are believed to be moving into Forest Lodge later this year with their three children.

But earlier in the summer, tenants living near the £16 million mansion in Windsor, which boasts eight bedrooms, were asked to vacate their properties.

The Mirror reports that the cottages were converted from the Forest Lodge’s stables.

It is believed they have been rented out by the Crown Estate.

The Mail on Sunday reports that the tenants were “surprised” at the request.

However it was understood that no eviction noticed had been served, with the tenants instead moved to similar housing in the 4,800-acre Great Park.

An unnamed source told the publication: “They were told to move out.

“I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move.

“They were not expecting it. Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they’re not going to want any Tom, Dick or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there.”

According to royal insiders, William and Kate were keen for a “fresh start” at Forest Lodge and leave behind the painful memories they experienced while residing at Adelaide Cottage.

A source told The Sun : “Windsor has become their home – however, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times

“Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.

“This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.”

Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment by the Mirror.
