Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park

Considering the importance of privacy for the Waleses, it’s no wonder that the interiors of Forest Lodge are wrapped up as a royal secret. Photos from a £1.5 million restoration back in 2001, however, offer a glimpse into their new home: A stunning example of Georgian architecture, with marble fireplaces warming the living rooms, plaster cornices, grand Venetian windows, and a cavernous vaulted ceiling welcoming guests in the entrance hall.

Before that major re-do, back in 1998, Knight Frank had the house on the market for rent at £60,000 a year. Kate and William are said to be self-funding the cost of their new home, which is reportedly undergoing additional ‘light renovations’ on the Waleses’ dime. That means, says House & Garden, ‘new doors and windows, removal of some internal walls, ceiling repairs and new floors.’

The lodge underwent a £1.5 million refurbishment in 2001, at which point it was valued at an estimated £5.5 million
