Throughout the years, rumours have swirled regarding Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s bond, yet it seems there was an early indicator that they weren’t entirely in harmony, according to a Royal commentator.

When Meghan was welcomed as the latest addition to the Royal Family, having formally married Prince Harry in May 2018, there was considerable anticipation about the pair joining Kate and Prince William for numerous Royal duties.

Indeed, prior to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping back from their senior Royal roles in 2020, they were frequently spotted alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales, which led to them being dubbed the ‘Fab Four’.

Their inaugural official joint appearance as the ‘Fab Four’ took place at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, marking Meghan’s debut official occasion with her soon-to-be in-laws.

Harry and William took to the stage with their respective partners to enthusiastic applause and participated in a joint discussion about the Royal Foundation’s future direction, reports the Mirror.

Whilst it represented an thrilling period for observers, with the ‘Fab Four’ seeming harmonious on stage together, this moment is believed to have marked the beginning of strain between the siblings and their spouses.

“There was a soft-focus filter over this ‘Fab Four’ meeting of minds at the time, as Harry rather coldly and incorrectly put it, ‘We’re together for life’,” body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail. She went on: “The expectation was that we had a new friend and ‘sister’ for Kate in much the same way that Fergie and Diana paired off, plus a very glamorous royal quartet to team up for their campaigns and charities.”

Throughout the event, Meghan inadvertently ventured into political territory as she urged women to “use their voices” and championed a campaign designed to establish legislation penalising companies that permitted sexual harassment. Whilst it represented a crucial topic and legislation to address, royals are traditionally expected to remain neutral on political matters and avoid expressing personal viewpoints on such issues.

Observing Meghan’s fervent stance at the Royal Foundation, Judi remarked: “There was a powerful difference between the more cautious, careful and rather slow-hand-on-the-tiller campaign approach of William and Kate and the warp-speed urgency, drive, passion and energy of Meghan.”

Kate was also expecting at the time, and the specialist observed that she “looked and sounded tired.”

In stark contrast to Meghan’s methodology, Kate seemed more composed, “speaking softly and smiling politely.”

Highlighting their contrasting styles, Judi also observed that Meghan “clearly knew how to work and hold a room actively, while Kate, as a royal, had only ever needed to adopt a more passive approach”. Author Tom Bower also alleged that Meghan’s remarks during the engagement disturbed the foundation’s executives and generated an uncomfortable atmosphere amongst the quartet.

In an extract from ‘Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors’, Bower penned: “While Meghan spoke, Harry spotted William’s rictus grin… ‘Wedding first’, Harry whispered loudly.”

Although all four chuckled at Harry’s remark, the author depicts a scenario where it served as his method of cautioning his then-fiancée against overstepping.

“We can multi-task,’ Meghan replied to the unexpected interruption.”
