Prince William and Princess Kate have honoured the memory of the late Queen Elizabeth on the third anniversary of her death. Prince Harry paid his own tribute just a short distance away.
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended an event in Sunningdale to celebrate the remarkable life of the late monarch. Their visit was to the National Federation of Women’s Institute (WI), an organisation with a special link to the late Queen.
Although initially not scheduled to accompany William, Kate made a last minute decision to join him. Harry visited St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle to pay his respects at his grandmother’s grave shortly after landing at London Heathrow.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly left a wreath and a bouquet of flowers at the late Queen’s grave in a private moment of reflection, as reported by the Mirror.
It is understood that Prince Harry sought special permission to visit the Queen’s final resting place, which Buckingham Palace aides granted, as long as his visit remain private. However, an onlooker at Windsor managed to capture Harry within the castle grounds.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also paid tribute to the anniversary as well, with the monarch’s official social media account posting a photo of the late Queen alongside the caption: “Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022.”
The anniversary of the late Queen coincides with Harry’s solo four day return to the UK, marking his first visit home in five months. Travelling from California to London, Harry is set to attend the WellChild Awards, an event that honours the courage and achievements of seriously ill children and their families.
This will mark Harry’s 15th appearance at the annual award ceremony, as he continues his patronage of the charity, a role he has held for 17 years.
Shortly after touching down at Heathrow, Harry reportedly headed straight to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the venue where he exchanged vows with Meghan Markle in 2018, to honour his late grandmother.
It was three years ago today that Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96, having spent her final day at her cherished Balmoral residence in the Scottish Highlands.
By her side for 73 years was Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away at the age of 99 in 2021. In the months leading up to her death, she had been grappling with mobility issues and had celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne, just three months prior to her passing in June 2022.
The late Queen passed away at 3.10pm on September 8, as her death certificate later disclosed, citing “old age” as the cause. Buckingham Palace announced the news of the sovereign’s passing and Charles’s ascension to the throne to the world just over three hours later, at 6.30pm that same evening.
Her final resting place is with her husband, her parents, and the ashes of her sister Princess Margaret in the King George VI Memorial Chapel within St George’s Chapel at Windsor.
