The Prince and Princess of Wales are getting ready to relocate to their $20 million “forever home”, and they’ve already got to work on planning renovations and changes.

Rather than moving into Buckingham Palace when Prince William becomes King, the future monarchs and their kids George, Charlotte, and Louis, intend to live at Forest Lodge, situated in Windsor Great Park. This location sits four miles away from their current four-bedroom home, Adelaide Cottage.

A source previously revealed the couple is making adaptations to their home, including having new trees and hedgerows planted, as well as having new fences built to shield them from public view.

Some of their renovations are to make the 10-bedroom house more secure, and work has already begun ahead of the family moving in at the end of this year.

The work is said to be funded by the couple themselves, with planning permissions for the work granted in July for internal and external renovations on Forest Lodge.

It’s not the first time that the 300-year-old Grade II listed property has had work done to it, as it underwent £1.5 million in restoration works in 2001.

Whilst the Waleses might be changing their home, their family rules are likely to stay in place according to one royal expert.

Speaking to HELLO!, royal biographer Ingrid Seward revealed the Wales’ family are unlikely to hire in servants or hired help to aid their household, a rule they’ve always followed.

Ingrid explained, “William and Kate have never wanted live-in staff; I think that’s the modern way. Since William was a little boy, he’s seen all the staff at the late Queen’s homes, and he never wanted that. It’s not something Kate grew up with either.”

The family are thought to still benefit from having access to nearby staff, yet the setup will be a little different from that at other royal residences. This has been the norm for the family since they moved to Windsor’s Adelaide Cottage in 2022.

Ingrid added, “They had a housekeeper and a nanny at Kensington Palace, but at Windsor, they have all these little cottages around the big house, which is nicer for the staff, too.”
