Princess Kate is scheduled to undertake two additional official duties this week with visits to textile manufacturers in Suffolk and Kent.

The Princess, who made an unexpected appearance with Prince William on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, will tour Sudbury Silk Mills in Sudbury, Suffolk on Thursday, September 11, before heading to Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent.

The Princess of Wales’ forthcoming commitments are planned during her brother-in-law Prince Harry’s UK visit, as he has returned to his homeland for several important charity appearances – including the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Awards. Kensington Palace announced the Princess’s trip would “celebrate the unique skill, creativity and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers.”

The statement declares: “Her Royal Highness’s visit will highlight the rich heritage of the British textile industry and celebrate the joy found in working in the creative industries.”

Officials noted Kate has “long been passionate about the importance of the British textiles industry and its role as part of the UK’s cultural and creative voice.”

The Princess of Wales will initially tour Sudbury Silk Mills in Sudbury, Suffolk, a family-operated weaving facility that has led jacquard weaving and remained a cornerstone of the British textile sector for more than 300 years. She will then tour Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent, a family-owned business established in 1967, renowned for its hand-designed and screen-printed furnishing fabrics.

Kate has always had a deep connection to the fashion industry, extending beyond her flawless fashion sense. During a visit to the A W Hainsworth mill in Yorkshire in 2023, Kate delved into her family history.

Her paternal great-grandfather, Noel Middleton, played a role in selling the family business, William Lupton & Co, to A W Hainsworth after over 160 years of operation.

And, demonstrating that the family bond still flows through her, Kate enthusiastically grabbed handfuls of freshly-woven Merino wool fabric during the visit, exclaiming: “I love the feel of it and the smell of it!”.

These two visits are scheduled on the final day of Prince Harry’s return to the UK.
