Princess Kate and Queen Camilla have been dealt a significant blow as one of their favorite brands, Cefinn, has announced its closure.

The label, founded by Lady Samantha Cameron, is shutting down after years of financial struggles. The British brand, which launched in 2017, quickly gained a reputation for smart, versatile staples aimed at modern women in the workplace. Its pieces were worn by high-profile figures including Gillian Anderson, Holly Willoughby, and senior royals.

The label’s name was a deeply personal choice, derived from the initials of her children: Ivan, who sadly passed away in 2009, Elwen, Florence, and Nancy. Cefinn’s closure also highlights the challenges faced by mid-market fashion labels, many of which struggle to compete with fast fashion and the dominance of luxury houses.

The news is particularly significant for Royal fans, as the brand offered a unique middle ground between accessible high street staples and polished, high-end craftsmanship, reports the Express.

Over the years, the label established itself as a discreet yet fashionable choice for women in the public eye, earning a loyal following among professionals and style-conscious royals alike.

The Princess of Wales, 43, was among Cefinn’s most prominent supporters. In 2023, she was photographed wearing one of the label’s signature tailored dresses during a London engagement, showcasing her preference for streamlined silhouettes and fuss-free workwear.

The Princess also opted for Cefinn’s sophisticated knitwear sweaters and midi dresses during more casual outings, showcasing the brand’s adaptability for both formal and everyday occasions.

Queen Camilla also gravitated toward Samantha Cameron’s creations, frequently selecting Cefinn’s fluid dresses and stylish separates for daytime events.

The label’s standing for comfort while maintaining sophistication made it an obvious choice for the Queen Consort’s packed agenda.

These Royal endorsements helped cement Cefinn’s standing as a brand that combined functionality with refinement. For those following Royal style, witnessing both Kate and Camilla, 77, support the label boosted its prestige, making its shuttering feel like the conclusion of a chapter in Royal fashion.

Following approximately 30 collections and the launch of two London stores, the business failed to generate profits and has now announced it will stop operations.

Lady Samantha Cameron, 54, called the shuttering an “incredibly difficult decision” and honored her “brilliant, talented and dedicated” staff, showing appreciation for their efforts.

“This was not a decision I have taken lightly, especially as we have recently seen strong trading figures. But, as a small company navigating the turbulence in the fashion wholesale sector, ongoing cost pressures and international trading restrictions, I have found it increasingly difficult to be certain that Cefinn can achieve the level of growth needed to reach a stable and profitable position.”

Cefinn’s boutiques on King’s Road and Elizabeth Street in Belgravia are still open for business, showcasing their autumn and winter collections. However, both stores are anticipated to close before spring arrives.
