Anticipation is growing in a Suffolk town ahead of a visit by the Princess of Wales later today.

Kate, who made a surprise appearance alongside the Prince of Wales earlier this week, will be given a tour of Sudbury Silk Mills, in Cornard Road.

Sudbury Silk Mills is a family-fun company that has been at the forefront of silk weaving for more than 300 years, spanning 10 generations.

The mill, which employs more than 100 people, moved to Sudbury in 1900, after starting out in Spitalfields, London.

Kensington Palace said the princess has ‘long been passionate about the importance of the British textiles industry and its role as part of the cultural and creative voice.’

Kate’s paternal ancestors were the owners of a woollen manufacturer and merchant, William Lupton & Co, which was based in Leeds.
