Ukraine visit and veterans support
Harry visited Kyiv with his Invictus Games Foundation team following an invitation from the Ukrainian government and Olga Rudneva, chief executive of the Superhumans Centre. The orthopaedic clinic and rehabilitation centre treats adults and children affected by the war.
During a panel discussion at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, Harry praised military families. He paid tribute to “the wives and mothers who keep their loved ones on the straight and narrow, they deserve as much respect as anyone who serves”.
The duke offered advice to veterans struggling with civilian life. “You will feel lost at times, like you lack purpose, but however dark those days are, there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “Don’t stay silent. Silence will hold you in the dark.”
Charitable work and return home
Harry met Ukraine’s veterans affairs minister Natalia Kalmykova to discuss how the Invictus Games Foundation can better support wounded service personnel and veterans with life-changing injuries. The discussions focused on improving international community support for those returning home.
The Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation announced it had donated 500,000 US dollars to projects supporting injured children from Gaza and Ukraine. The grants will fund World Health Organisation medical evacuations and prosthetics development for children seriously hurt in conflicts.
Meghan appeared to reference Harry’s return to the US on her Instagram account. The Duchess of Sussex posted a picture of two glasses of rosé wine from her As Ever collection with the caption “when your beau is back in town”.
