Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters — A Second Chance At Cult Glory
The initial attraction to do the movie would came from a little one sheet that I got um before I even got the script and it was something that they end up shooting in the movie. It’s a Honor Girdle walking away and a witch burning in the background fire going and he has a shotgun and she’s got this crossbow and it’s kind of walking away and it was just a poster like that’s interesting to me. I don’t know why, but it was. And then, you know, being in actually shooting it, it it it was as I imagine it to be and even more so sometimes.
Once dismissed by critics, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) is making a surprising comeback — thanks to streaming platforms like Paramount+. Starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, this gritty, steampunk reimagining of the classic fairy tale is finding new fans more than a decade after its release.
At the time of the film’s release Renner spoke about what drew him to the project, and how its blend of action, horror, and dark humor is earning it cult status.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is available now to stream on Paramount+, and can also be found on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital platforms like Amazon.
