The Gist

During an emotionally-charged visit to Southport, England, Prince William had a moment of levity when he shared that his kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis talk about food “a lot.”

William and wife Kate Middleton were in Southport to honor the three lives lost in an attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July 2024.

During the visit—their second, after the Prince and Princess of Wales also visited in October 2024—they saw the opening of a new playground and wore matching friendship bracelets with one of the victim’s names on them.

During a visit to Southport, England earlier this week, Prince William shared the commonality that his three kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis can’t stop talking about—and it’s pretty relatable.

On September 23, both William and Kate Middleton traveled to Southport to meet with the families and classmates of three girls killed in an attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July 2024. The visit was filled with poignant moments—including the Prince and Princess of Wales sporting matching friendship bracelets with one of the victim’s names on them in her honor—but also included a lighthearted tidbit about their three kids while speaking with other schoolchildren.

Both William and Kate had the chance to connect with the young students, and, according to The Daily Express, one topic that came up? School lunches.

“He was asking us all about school and what lessons we liked the most,” one student said. “And about lunch menus as well. He was just saying to us about food, because his children talk about food a lot.”

Earlier this month, the Princess of Wales shared her own tidbit about her three kids, saying at a visit to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes on September 8 that George, Charlotte, and Louis spent their summer break from school “crafting in every corner of the house.”

In that same visit, William opened up about the kids’ personalities after being asked if 7-year-old Louis is “a bit of a handful.”

“He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy,” the future king said. “He likes to wind his brother and sister up.”

William added that while George, 12, appears to be the more “sensible” one in public, “When George is behind closed doors, it’s completely different,” William said. “George just knows how to behave.”

The three kids are bonded by their shared experience of growing up in the royal fishbowl. “No one else knows what it’s like to grow up in the U.K.’s foremost family,” a palace insider told People. “It’s a shared, lived experience for them.”
