From the royals, Melania received a silver and enamel bowl crafted by the Northern Irish artist Cara Murphy, as well as a personalised handbag by Anya Hindmarch – a British designer whose pieces Kate Middleteon often favours. The couple were also given a silver frame, engraved with Their Majesties’ joint cipher – perhaps the Trumps will use it to display one of the many photographs taken of the foursome together during the state visit.

Queen Camilla, meanwhile, received a vintage Tiffany brooch rich in significance, as it featured rubies and diamonds, the birthstones of Camilla and Melania respectively. ‘By showcasing an American company, this gift honours the idea of diplomacy,’ said the Palace, ‘conveying messages of friendship, respect, and a commemoration of this historic visit’. Touchingly, According to Town & Country, the Trumps also brought a present for the Princess of Wales: a vintage Elsa Peretti sterling zodiac cuff, also from Tiffany, that stands as a signature style of the jewellery designer.
