The fallout from the end of Meghan Markle‘s friendship with Jessica Mulroney just took a very lucrative twist.
Mulroney has been offered a book deal worth more than $1 million, according to the Daily Mail. There is a catch, though; she would have to write about their friendship and the feud that drove them apart. Mulroney gave a short statement to the U.K. publication, confirming she would “never” write a memoir about Meghan — and an insider is revealing why.
“Meghan still has a lot of eyes and ears in Canada,” a Mulroney pal told the media outlet. “I suspect Jessica is not sure what to do [with what she knows]. Meghan is still pretty powerful, and they have a lot of people in common. She is probably biding her time. She lost her career, but to come after Meghan could be perceived as being petty and bitter and could potentially alienate her even more.”

The Canadian fashionista was involved in a Black Lives Matter controversy with Black influencer Sasha Exeter in June 2020. Mulroney didn’t handle the incident well, and it eventually led to the end of her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex. “I need to acknowledge and understand [Exeter’s experience]. I am unequivocally sorry for not doing that with you, and for any hurt I caused,” she wrote, per Page Six. “As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre.”
Mulroney reportedly then threatened Exeter with a libel suit. When that revelation became public, it resulted in the loss of sponsors, her TV career, and her close bond with Meghan. “The white privilege row has really given Meghan the excuse she was waiting for to cut Jess off for good,” an insider told Page Six in June 2020. “I don’t know what the tipping point was, but Jess has been on the outs for some time.”
While the media is reporting that Mulroney is skipping the book deal for fear of Meghan’s power, there could be a simpler reason not to take the offer. It would make Mulroney look petty, and she probably wants to move past her 2020 controversy and look toward the future. Maybe one day their rift will be healed, but for now, Meghan and Mulroney’s friendship is on hiatus.
